FIRST! Harry Potter fic rec: A Life So Very Much Less Than Ordinary by anonymous. Harry/Luna (<-- not-so-secret OTP!) future-fic, lots of previous/background pairings. 33k words, NC-17. I absolutely love this kind of HP future-fic, the kind that shows that saving the world doesn't necessarily mean life gets any less complicated, and it especially doesn't mean that the configuration of happy families is set in stone when characters are young and in love. It's a story about how people grow and change and hurt each other and love each other and move on. It's quite wonderful. - SECOND: FANFIC CRITIQUE MEMEI will be honest and say that I'm more interested in general writing critiques rather than story specifics, because while I'm unlikely to care much about fixing any particular story, I am very much interested in learning which of my (many) (bad) writing habits I should learn to fix. |

24 stories in 9 fandoms. 4 remixes. 101,240 words total, of which nearly 60% belongs to the Panic! space opera AU. I only counted the stories I titled, so there are a few untitled ficlets not listed here. ( fanfic 2009 )No fanfic meme for me this year. I don't have that much to say. "Parallax" and "Marwnat" are my favorite stories from the year, and probably the best. I also have a special place in my heart for "keep you free from sin" because it freaks me the fuck out. Everything else is... eh. That's why I wrote less and less fanfic as the year went on, and my fic got shorter and shorter. In other news, completely unrelated to fandom, it seems that today the Earth is at perihelion in its orbit around the Sun; that is, we're as close to the Sun now as we ever get. It's only a difference of about 5 million kilometers (3.1 million miles) compared to aphelion, our farthest point from the Sun, so it's not noticeable, but still! It's pretty cool, you know, how the Earth is moving through space, even though we sometimes forget it. |

( doctor who: the end of time )That's all I have to say about that. I am all about the deep thoughts, can't you tell? I was so busy watching DW I forgot to eat dinner. No wonder I'm so hungry! OOPS. |

Oh. Oh, dear. So what are we supposed to do when we try to clean out our folders for the WIP amensty meme making the rounds and we find 18,000 words of an unfinished story we're pretty sure we don't want to abandon after all? I'm not even writing fanfic anymore. Mostly. See, 'cause I start thinking, "I haven't opened the file in months! Clearly I'm not working on it!" But then I think, "So? Some of your favorite fics are the ones you stopped writing for months on end before picking them up again." And part of me retorts, "But, but, but, I'm not writing this story anymore and you can't--" and the rest of me puts my hands over my ears and singsongs, "LA LA LA CAN'T HEAR YOU." |

Yesterday before Sherlock Holmes there was a preview for Hot Tub Time Machine, which basically looks like the stupidest movie in the history of cinema and the kind of movie I would, if given the choice, opt to have each of my fingernails extracted and my bloody, shredded fingers dipped in acid rather than watch the movie voluntarily.
BUT! But it did make me think fondly of certain canonical shenanigans back in the deep, dark histories of Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco and company, and I decided, before the preview was over (and my fingernails remained intact), that somebody ought to write the fic MAN SOUP TIME MACHINE.
Any volunteers?
RIGHT. A memememememememe, because everybody some people are doing it:
Name a fandom or a fannish topic and I will share my unpopular fandom opinions on the matter. Or any opinion, because I have lots of those and don't always know which ones are unpopular or not.
It doesn't even have to be a fandom or discussion topic I participate in, because I have lots of opinions about things I don't mention on a daily basis. |

AND ♥_____________________♥ x ELEVENTY MILLION. Okay, I'm not entirely seeing why people thought the plot was confusing? But I did find it quite hilarious that ( spoiler! )ANYWAY. THE POINT IS TWOFOLD: 1) What a stupendously fun movie! :D \o/ *____* ♥ ♥ ♥! 2) WHERE IS THE FIC? The movie has been out for FIVE DAYS. It doesn't seem like there should be that much time between the year 2000 and the year 2010. There are all these END OF THE DECADE! and BEST OF THE DECADE! and WORST OF THE DECADE! articles floating around, and I was tempted to get all retrospective and thoughtful and "Where were you ten years ago?" and possibly wallow in some wallowy memories or something, as one is in danger of doing at times like this. But that's rather hard to do because my brain keeps interrupting me and thinking, "Wait, what? It can't be 2010 already! Nobody's tried to turn Jupiter into a star yet!" Well. Not that we know of. Yet. Maybe by the end of next year. It's terribly disappointing how very much we are not living in the future. :( |

I watched the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie last night and, wow, that was a terrible movie. It's like they flipped through the book and picked out a scene every twenty pages to film and strung them all together with no regard for narrative structure, then when they got to the last thirty minutes and finally realized what the story was supposed to be, they decided it needed to look exactly like Lord of the Rings in every possible cinematic sense. HBP is my least favorite HP book but I do at least remember it, and have nurtured an HP obsession for several years, and even I had no idea wtf was going on during most of the movie. I can't imagine how confusing it must be for somebody who hasn't read the books. I swear my confusion had nothing to do with the five six seven glasses of wine and two cups of vodka hot chocolate I had during the course of the day. [The writing of this post was interrupted by a three-hour game of Monopoly. I won.] Anyway. I had a lovely Christmas. I firmly believe that Christmas - and every other holiday - is what you make of it and nothing more, nothing less. My family is not Christian and celebrates in a purely secular way. We have no traditions except food and wine and board games and stupid movies. Oh, and slippers. For some reason, we always give each other slippers for Christmas. It works for us. The only bad thing about this year is that my mom is pretty sick right now - sick enough that she's been off work for about a week, which she really cannot afford - but at least the holiday means that's one more day that doesn't count against her. I hope everybody is having a good weekend. ♥ |

I got a shirt as one of my gifts. It's from baby phat and it's purple with lots of bling. Maybe one day if I wake up and I feel like I have to much dignity, I'll put it on...just kidding. My brother put it on and started dancing and asked if it made him look sexy. What a treat! Also, is it a thing for Jewish people to go to Chinese restaurants on Christmas? |

HAN SHOT FIRST, DAMN IT. We don't need your flimsy revisionist morality, Mr. Lucas. >:( |

I started watching Castle last night, because I've been in the mood for mysteries, and you are all completely right! IT'S TOTALLY ADORABLE. The cases are kind of idiotic - I mean, they're okay, but also utterly predictable for someone who grew up in the Law & Order era of crime television - but the characters are darling, every single one of them. I would totally hang out at the Castle household with his awesome mom and even more awesome daughter all day long. How cute is Alexis? She's my favorite TV teenager! I would totally plot to steal her away from her dad if they didn't adore each other so much. And Molly Quinn actually is a teenager, wonder of wonders, and not a twenty-something doing an appalling job of pretending to be one. I didn't know they let teenagers play teenagers on TV anymore. ♥ ♥ ♥ |
